Develop a Success Mindset

A businessman on a cell phone next to a whiteboard demonstrating the copywriter mindset.

This blog talks about digital marketing and copywriting skills.

But I also want to take this time to address another vital skill-

Too often, skills are taught, but we neglect the topic of mindset for success.

If you’re reading this, you want to do better.

You’re an innovator… a creator… and you set your goals high.

Being different is not a problem because you know you want to do better.

The world is now suffering a pandemic leaving millions at home.

It’s a time to spend with family and loved ones.

But it’s also a time to prioritize your definitions of success and what that means for you.

It’s time to get to the core of who you are and what motivates you.

Because we will come out strong.

I want this blog to discuss more than just copywriting.

I want to foster a sense of community during these challenging times.

Because we can talk about hard skills for days.

Most blogs do.

But I want to get down to the core of what drives us to be able to implement these skills into our reality.

Mindset is the basis for all of our actions, interactions, and personal growth.

Take a look at this formula:

Mindset X Skills = Success.

Your skills will only take you so far…

But having the growth mindset will enable you to take your skills and build a life beyond your dreams.

Let’s get deep.

Time to get personal.

Allow me to discuss what has worked for me along the way.

Mindset Key #1

The growth mindset is shown with an adventurer looking into the horizon with a compass.

There is an old saying-

“Visualize to materialize”

And this is very true.

But it is something you already know deep down.

However, at some point, you lost sight of this because you got caught up in mainstream society.

As a child, you’re taught you can be anything.

And they bring the “heroes” of society to your school to talk about what you can be….

Police officers…. Fire Fighters… Doctors….

Nurses, and so on.

But they only tell you to think big when you’re a kid.

They say this, but it’s actually the opposite-

Overall, school and college contradicts this promise.

You are told what to do and how to act.

Your’re given homework assignments that don’t matter.

And you get beaten down overall.

But the 1% rise above this because they remember the importance of visualization.

Nothing gets them down.

It’s the same with digital marketing and copywriting.

It starts with your mindset.

See, copywriting is hardly ever taught in college…..

Ane the reason why is because it goes against most college teachings.

College teaches you to over analyze, over complicate things, and concentrate on things that wont benefit you 5 years from now.

This is not education, growth, knowledge or skill.

It’s a waste of time.

This is NOT a good mindset to have.

The fear mindset…

This is the fear mindset; not the growth mindset.

Rather than being a cog in a wheel in society (an object), you can run your own business and make whatever you want out of your life.

See, people become just another number when they become involved in mainstream society.

You’re taught to be an employee, and not think like a business owner or boss.

They do not ever talk about your mindset.

It’s time to visualize to materialize.

You do this by thinking about who you want to be in the future and going against societal norms to get there.

College isn’t always the answer.

Working in an office isn’t always the answer.

And being an employee isn’t always the answer.

Entrepreneurial Spirit

Develop a business owner mindset.

A business office with a mac desktop on a table with the words "Do More" on a screensaver.

An entrepreneur is someone who takes business into their own hands and doesn’t depend on anyone for direction.

They are self-starters and innovators.

Entrepreneurs don’t get there overnight.

It takes dedication, hard work, and determination to achieve success.

People with entrepreneurial traits are able to come up with new ideas AND carry them through to finish.

Simply put, entrepreneurs identify problems and come up with solutions.

They’re the middle man.

They got what you need.

The same thing applies to copywriters.

Let’s say you’re writing an email sequence.

No one is going to tell you the exact words to write.

Or how to write a Facebook ad to promote your product.

These are things you have to think about.

You have to do surgery with your words.

As my other post discusses, you have to have a recipe for your work;

It’s like cooking-

You need to find what ingredients work for your copy and make your signature recipe.

That’s how you keep them coming back for more.

Talk about putting your clients on retainer!

And that’s what makes copywriters unique-

They all have a different approach to solving problems.

Yes, there are formulas.

But you must use discretion.

And that’s where so many new copywriters get caught up.

You have to see what works not only best for you, but what works best for the situation.

College doesn’t teach the entrepreneurial mindset.

Again, copywriting is not academic writing.

College does not teach you how to write persuasive copy that converts readers into interested buyers.

You must unlearn the programming you’ve been taught for so long and learn to think like an independent human being.

Some of the best copy is conversational copy.

School and university teach you to stay in a safe bubble, mechanically un-question authority, and don’t you dare get less than an A.

There are no safe spaces in the real world.

So get used to failing.

Entrepreneurs know they will fail a thousand times (or more) in their lifetime.

Rejection is redirection.

You MUST develop a fearless mindset.

The ones who go against the grain are the ones who change society for the better.

This is unconventional wisdom and living.

But as an entrepreneur, you must be willing to pave your own road.

Is it worth it?

Not only will you have great stories to tell your grandkids,

But you will be able to take credit for all of your personal and professional successes.

Now that’s a life worth living.

How can you reach millions if you’re living inside a box (or a bubble)?

You can’t.

Times have changed.

We’re not in the 1960s anymore…

Working remotely can be done with high speed internet and apps to increase productivity.

Currently, the world is in quarantine with Covid-19.

So use this time to transform yourself and learn the skills to get you out of the rat race.

Everybody wants the good life, but not everybody gets the good life.

And this leads me to my next point…

Get Inspired!

Shape your mindset and create your own reality.

Two entrepreneurs looking on the ground with the words "Passion led us here" to show entrepreneur mindset.

The American entrepreneur Jim Rohn once said,

“A formal education will make you a living, but a self-education will make you a fortune.”

This is true because college and university give you a one-size-fits-all education with stuff you probably don’t care about.

It goes to the lowest common denominator so everyone can go.

When you seek knowledge and cultivate your own power, you become unstoppable.

If you’r reading this, you DON’T want to be like everyone else.

The way of the masses is the way to destruction.

Do you really think college wants you to be free of all that debt?

Absolutely not.

They want you paying those student loans back that you got for a piece of paper until the day you die.

You’re not meant to be free in their eyes.

But when you learn how to do things on your own, you become limitless because you can manifest whatever you want.

There are tons of ways to get inspired in the digital age.

One of the ways is by reading books.

Check out the list of books here for entrepreneurs.

Among these books include “Think and Grow Rich” and “How to Win Friends and Influence People.”

These classics will put you ahead of the game by showing mind hacks and manifestation techniques.

In addition to books, there’s also online reading with blogs focusing on mindset and growth.

Some blogs to follow are here.

Not a big reader?

No problem either.

There are many roads to the path of success…

There are tons of YouTube channels that can inspire you to think big as well.

My point is that there is not a right or wrong answer when it comes time to developing the right mindset.

Working on yourself is not a one-size-fits all project.

It takes time.

And only you know what works for you.

Copywriters do a lot of research before they launch a project.

So you should be doing a lot of research and trying new things to become who you envision yourself to be.

Always remember, the path less traveled will be a difficult one but it’s worth it in the long run.

What gets you inspired?

Have fun with it and continue to grow.
